What are the 8 keys to intimacy with God ? In Part 1 we looked at 4 of the keys to intimacy with God. These first 4 of 8 keys to intimacy with God were Commitment, Love, Respect (Honor, Reverence), and Trust.
Now we will look at the last 4 of the 8 keys to intimacy with God. These keys include Communication – Listen and Speak, Time and Effort, and Honesty. Without these 8 keys to intimacy with God we will never have the kind of relationship and fellowship that God wants us to have. And we will not have the kind of life and be the kind of person that God wants without close fellowship and intimacy with God.

8 Keys to Intimacy With God – #5 – Intimate Communication – You Listen (God Speaks)
John 10:2-4,10, 27 “But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice… I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep… My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
1 Kings 19:11-13 “The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
Our Heart Attitude Needs to Be: Speak Lord For Your Servant Is Listening
1 Samuel 3:10 “The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
Listening to God Is The Most Important Part of Our Prayer Time With God
Psalm 46:10 “He says, “Be still, and know that I am God…”
Ecclesiastes 5:1 “Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.”
Luke 10:38-42 “As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the LORD’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “LORD, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the LORD answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed-or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Blessed Are Those Who Hear God’s Voice & Obey
Luke 11:28 “But He said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”
Hearing God’s voice is the most important part of our prayer time with Him. That is why we should get in the habit of reading God’s word and hearing His voice before we share our prayer requests and petitions with God.
Good communication and learning to hear His “still small voice” is essential to knowing God. And to knowing His attributes, His will, and His plans, and God’s calling on your life.
8 Keys to Intimacy With God – #6 – Intimate Communication – You Speak (Prayer)
Acts 1:14 “Acts 1:14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.”
Acts 2:42 “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
1 John 5:14-15 “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him.”
We Need to Devote Ourselves to God And to Prayer
Colossians 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. “
Matthew 7:7 “Ask (“keep on asking”) and it will be given to you; seek (“keep on seeking”) and you will find; knock (“keep on knocking”) and the door will be opened to you.”
God wants us to talk to Him about and involve Him in all aspects of our life. And He wants us to have a lifestyle of prayer & talking to Him. God wants us to share our heart and our life with Him, including our needs, hurts, and struggles. God loves you and He wants you to involve Him in your life. He cares, so He wants to hear from you.

8 Keys to Intimacy With God – #7 – Time & Effort To Know God
John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”

Luke 6:12-13 “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. 13When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles.”
God Wants to Reveal Himself & Spiritual Truth to Us
Matthew 11:25-27 ” At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, LORD of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. 27″All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
Philippians 3:8,10 “What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my LORD, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ-the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ-yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death”
When You Love Someone You Want to Be With Them
When you love someone you want to know them more & more. You want to spend time with them. It takes time & effort & desire & determination in order to get to know God. It is a lifelong process and a heart attitude. A heart attitude of desire and passion for God.
8 Keys to Intimacy With God – #8 – Honesty
Psalm 62:8 “Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”
Psalm 13:1-4 “How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? And how long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart all the day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken.”
Psalm 22:1-2, 14-15 “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my [c]groaning. O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; and by night, but I have no rest… I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me [m]in the dust of death.”
God Wants Us to Pour Out Our Hearts to Him
1 Samuel 1:10-11 “In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”
Psalm 51:2-4, 10-12 “Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.”… “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
God Wants to Be Involved In Your Life
God wants you to “pour out your heart to Him” (Psalm 62:8). Whatever it is you are feeling and going through, God wants to hear about it. Because He deeply cares for you. God wants you to be open and honest with Him. Note how David would be completely honest with God in some of the Psalms (Psalm 13, 22,…). Hannah poured out her heart and soul to God when she was in anguish about not having a child. God is always truthful with us, and He wants us to be truthful and open and honest with Him.
Make knowing God and having intimacy with God your main desire and pursuit. Nothing will please Him more. The more you know Jesus the more you will love Him, and trust Him, and delight in Him, and follow & obey Him.
