The Keys To Discover God’s Call For Your Life

Some Guidelines From God’s Word

The Bible offers some insight into how to discover God’s call for your life. God has already called you. God’s calling is in His word.

You need to prayerfully seek God and ask Him to help you to discern His will. And His special plan for your life. And your purpose & God’s calling for your life. Ask God to give you the faith and courage to follow, wherever and however He leads you. Ask God for discernment to find the keys to discover your purpose & God’s calling for your life.

You will be happiest and full of joy when you are in the middle of God’s will and plan.

The Keys To Discover God’s Call For Your Life

1. God’s Call For Your Life Is First To A Restored Relationship With Him

Only by repenting for your sins, placing your faith in Jesus Christ, and receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior can you have a restored relationship with God. Our sins cause us to have a broken relationship with God. Nothing can repair this broken relationship with God. Not religion or church. Not trying to be good morally. And not by trying to do more good than bad in your life. Only Jesus Christ can save us from our sins and restore us to a right relationship with God.

“I (Jesus) am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”- John 14:6

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” – Mark 1:15

“to all who received Jesus, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” – John 1:12

2. After Salvation God’s Call For Your Life Is To Have Close Fellowship With God

Eternal life and being a Christian is not just about accepting Jesus as your Lord & Savior, then waiting around to go to heaven. It is about a restored relationship and then close intimacy with God. And spending time with God and getting to know Him. And serving Him and obeying Him because you love Him.

“Now this is eternal life: that they may know you the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” – John 17:3

God’s Call For Your Life – Koinania Fellowship With God

“God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship (Greek word “koinania”) with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 1:9

Koinania is the original Greek word used in this verse to describe the kind of close fellowship that God desires to have with His children. The best definition of “koinania” fellowship is:  The closest possible fellowship with God, and complete unity with God (same heart as God), and a partnership with God in His kingdom work & mission.

Once you have close fellowship and intimacy with God, God will invite you to join Him in His kingdom work and mission. He will call you to have a partnership with Him where He will use you to help fulfill His kingdom work and mission.

”No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.” – John 15:15

” You are my friends if you do what I command.” – John 15:14

“God’s call is for you to be His loyal friend, for whatever purpose He has for your life.” – Oswald Chambers – My Utmost For His Highest

3. God Has A Special & Unique Purpose & Plan For Your Life

”For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has special plans for your life. Plans to bless you and prosper you. The next two verses spell out the necessary conditions for you to discover His plans and to receive the benefit of His plans.

You Need To Seek God With All Your Heart To Discover God’s Call For Your Life

“Then when you call upon Me and come and pray to Me, I will hear you. When you search for Me, You will find Me; if you seek Me with all your heart” – Jeremiah 29:12-13

You need to seek God with all your heart. First to know Him personally, not just know about Him. And then to seek and know His calling and His plans for your life. This takes desire and effort and determination. And you will need to spend quality time in prayer and God’s word.

” God will instruct him in the way chosen for him.” – Psalm 25:12

” You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9

” For we are God’s workmanship (“precious masterpiece”), created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10

You are God’s precious masterpiece. God has created you to have a restored relationship and then close fellowship with Him. And God then wants you to have a special purpose and meaning in your life, by joining Him in His kingdom work and mission.

4. God Places A Desire & A Passion In Your Heart

” For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.” – Philippians 2:13

“For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son.” – Romans 8:29

You will have love & joy & passion for doing the things God has created you for. And for the assignments He calls you to.

One of the keys to discover God’s will for your life is to have the same heart as His. To fully submit and have the same will and desires and passions as God has.

God will give you a heart like His if you ask Him. A heart that is fully devoted to Him. A heart that is filled with God’s desires. And a passion for the things that God is passionate about. Jesus was completely one with God, and only followed His Father’s will and desires.

5. God Gives Spiritual Gifts To Equip You For Your Calling

When God calls you to join Him in His kingdom work and mission, He does not leave you to do the job alone. God wants to do the work through you, not you trying your best to do His work. And He sends the Holy Spirit to equip you and do God’s work & mission. Without God doing His kingdom work through us, we can do absolutely nothing.

“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5

But with God’s presence and with the Holy Spirit, we can accomplish all things that God wants to accomplish through us.

“I can do all things through Him (Christ) who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13

6. God’s Presence & Power Will Always Be With You When He Calls You

“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” – Acts 13:2

The Greek word for called means that God “called them unto Himself”. This means that first God called them to a love relationship with Him. And next it means that God called them to where His presence and His power would be at work. He did not call Barnabas and Saul to try their best to do the work. God called them to join God in what God was doing.

You only need to respond in faith and obedience when God calls. And God will provide the power and whatever else is needed to get the job done.

Moses being called to help lead God’s people out of Egypt is another good example of God’s call. Remember Moses’ response ? “But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?” – Exodus 3:11

And Moses also said to God “Then Moses said to the Lord, “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” – Exodus 4:10

Eventually Moses responded in faith and obeyed God’s calling. And God provided the power and everything else to accomplish His will (see Exodus 3 through 14).

7. There Are Some Things That God Calls All Christians To Do

“Come follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” – Matthew 4:19

“Then Jesus came to them and said “All authority in heaven and on earth have been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” – Matthew 28:18-20

You are not truly following Jesus unless you are being a fisher of men and an active witness for Jesus Christ. God calls you (and all Christians) to tell the lost about Jesus and God’s plan of salvation with them.

He also wants you and other believers to help and teach others, especially new believers. Help them to become fully devoted and passionate disciples of Jesus Christ. A disciple is a learner and follower of Jesus. God wants you to actively participate in the sharing of the Gospel with others. And He wants you to actively participate in the making of disciples. That is the great commission in Matthew 28:19-20.
